Flag of IcelandOn the brink of a financial collapse, Iceland voted for a new government yesterday. It looks like the current interim government of the centre-left parties Samfylking and Vinstrihreyfingin - grænt framboð, lead by current interim prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, wins the day. The newly created party from the democratic movement, Borgarahreyfingin, got around seven percent. Not bad for their first election participation.

Central issues for the new government are of course how to handle the bad economy and as well their stance on getting Iceland into the European Union (EU). Samfylking wants Iceland to join the EU, Vinstrihreyfingin not.

I am not sure if getting Iceland into the EU would be that great for the country. I am very sceptical, because I suspect our EU bureaucrats only to exploit the Icelandic resources: fish, energy and thereby destroying the great Icelandic landscape. Well, the latter can be done by Icelanders too: they allowed building the Kárahnjúkavirkjun in Eastern Iceland to power the aluminium smelter of Alcoa.

wikileaks_logoGerman Internet Censorship efforts now reach a new height: the German domain www.wikileaks.de is currently locked down by the German registry DENIC… two weeks after a police raid to the house of a German Wikileaks sponsor, who owns the domain. The police raid was issued after an Australian internet censorship list was published on Wikileaks. Read more on this on Wikileaks.

Following the solidarity plea on Wikileaks, I am pointing two subdomains to www.wikileaks.org:

wikileaks.hrafnsbjarg.de and wikileaks.trollverk.com

I hope our stupid conservative government will see the light.

Taraxacum

I let one of my windowboxes, which I normally use for growing kitchen herbs, go wild over the last year and now a big dandelion is blooming in it. Despite the summerlike temperatures over the last days, spring now officially arrived at my window sill.
